Read Southall è diventato famoso in Oklahoma dopo la pubblicazione del suo album acustico Six String Sorrow nel 2015, che ha accumulato 8 milioni di stream in soli 3 anni.

Nel 2016, Read Southall ha deciso che un lavoro di gruppo era la strada da percorrere con i suoi compagni di band e la Read Southall Band è ufficialmente nata. Nella primavera del 2017 hanno pubblicato Borrowed Time, con singoli come Don't Tell Me e Why, che sono entrati nella Top 10 di diverse classifiche di streaming.
