Shawn James, il cantautore e musicista americano frontman dei The Shapeshifters, nasce e cresce nel South Side di Chicago dove si avvicina alla musica grazie alle lezioni di canto, opera e orchestra durante il liceo e al coro della chiesa pentecostale locale. Nel 2012 abbandona il lavoro di ingegnere del suono per seguire il sogno di diventare musicista trasferendosi in Arkansas.

Nello stesso anno autoproduce il suo album di debutto dal titolo Shadows, seguito dai lavori con la band The Shapeshifters. Nel 2016 Shawn James raggiunge la fama grazie al brano Through the Valley, tratto dal suo album di debutto, che viene cantata da Ellie nel trailer del celebre videogioco The Last of Us Part II facendo entrare il cantante nella Spotify’s Viral Chart inglese.

I brani di Shawn James sono stati inoltre inseriti nelle colonne sonore delle serie TV Reckless, Shameless e nel reality show Yukon Men.

L’ultimo lavoro di Shawn James è l'album Honor & Vengeance, pubblicato il 10 novembre 2023.
