I Primus sono uno dei gruppi alternative metal più famosi della California. La musica del gruppo ha influenzato la nascita dei gruppi nu metal dal calibro di Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Incubus e System of a Down.

Il gruppo ha iniziato ad esibirsi nel 1989 attirando l’attenzione della scena musicale della Bay Area. Nel 1990 i Primus debuttano ufficialmente con Frizzle Fry da cui vengono estratti i singoli di successo John the Fisherman, Too Many Puppies e Mr. Knowitall per poi partire in tour insieme ai Jane’s Addiction.

Tra i brani più famosi dei Primus troviamo Jerry Was A Race Car Driver e Tommy The Cat incluse in Sailing The Seas of Cheese del 1991, My Name is Mud e Mr. Krinle tratte da Pork Soda del 1993 e Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver tratta da Tales From The Punchbowl del 1996.

I Primus si sono sciolti nel 2000 per poi tornare per la reunion del 2003 a cui sono seguiti gli album Green Naugahyde del 2011, Primus & the Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble del 2014 e The Desaturing Seven del 2017.
