About
The Divine Comedy is a Northern Irish group formed in 1989 by singer-songwriter Neil Hannon.
The group debuted in 1898 with the album “Fanfare for the Comic Muse”, later followed by “Liberation” and “Promenade”. In 1996 the group released the album “Casanova”, the third album produced by Darren Allison and Neil Hannonil and first major hit that brought them to the height of their commercial success. The following year was the turn of “A Short Album About Love”, an album recorded live during a sound rehearsal and released on Valentine's Day.
In 2001, “Regeneration”, another highly successful album by The Divine Comedy, was released, followed later by “Absent Friends”. It was with the latter album that the group seemed to strike a balance between the sometimes serious sound of their later work and the lighter tone of their more popular releases.
On May 31, 2010, The Divine Comedy released their tenth album entitled “Bang Goes the Knighthood” on DC Records. The album, reaching the number 20 position in its first week of release, becomes their highest charting album since “Regeneration”.
To date, the group's most recent works are the albums “Foreverland” and “Office Politics”, released in 2016 and 2019, respectively. In September 2025, The Divine Comedy will return with “Rainy Sunday Afternoon”, their thirteenth album.
