Premiata Forneria Marconi, also known by the acronym PFM, is an Italian progressive rock music group formed in Milan in 1971.
Among the Italian progressive rock groups of the 1970s (Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Stormy Six, Osanna, Acqua Fragile, The Trip, Goblin, Area, Perigeo, Le Orme, Opus Avantra, New Trolls), Premiata Forneria Marconi was the only one to achieve success outside the national borders and particularly in the United States of America. At the time it was among the few Italian bands to enter the album charts in the famous U.S. magazine Billboard.
It is musically related to bands such as Genesis, the progressive side of Pink Floyd or early King Crimson and Gentle Giant. It has also been able to evolve its style in the following decades thanks in part to the remarkable technical skills of its members.
