About
The musical produced by Compagnia della Rancia is inspired by the famous 1977 film and the story of Nik Cohn exploring the new trends in nightlife and the disco scene, adapted for the stage by Robert Stigwood in collaboration with Bill Oakes (North American version written by Sean Cercone and David Abbinanti), with the enthralling soundtrack by the Bee Gees and arrangements and orchestrations by David Abbinanti.
Mauro Simone's direction, inspired by the film's immersive shots and the unforgettable piano-sequence with a very young John Travolta, restores freshness and topicality to the story of the Italian-American Tony Manero that marked a generation at the theatre.
On stage, 21 performers bring to life the legendary hits of the Bee Gees, from Stayin' Alive and Night Fever to You Should Be Dancing and How Deep Is Your Love, planetary hits of disco music but, at the same time, symbols of 1970s culture, hymns of freedom, courage and the fight against marginalisation. The lyrics and lyrics of some songs have been translated by Franco Travaglio, while the songs that enliven the scenes set at 2001 Odyssey are interpreted in English.
