About

U2, one of the best rock bands in the world, are Paul David Hewson, aka Bono (singer), David Howell Evans aka The Edge (guitarist), Adam Clayton (bassist) and Larry Mullen Jr. (drummer). Founded in 1976 following a note posted by Larry Mullen Jr. on the bulletin board at Mount Temple in Dublin, U2 won a contest for new bands in Limerick thanks to which they signed a contract with the record company CBS. The meetings with the band manager Paul McGuinness and the producer Steve Lillywhite changed the fate of the young Irish band.

U2 released the studio albums “Boy” (1980), “October” (1981), “War” (1983), “The Unforgettable Fire” (1984), “The Joshua Tree” (1987), “Rattle and Hum” (1988), “Achtung Baby” (1991), “Zooropa” (1993), “Pop” (1997), “All That You Can't Leave Behind” (2000), “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” (2004), “No Line on the Horizon” (2009), “Songs of Innocence” (2014) and “Songs of Experience” (2017).

In 2005, U2 entered the legendary Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. In 2013, U2 wrote “Ordinary Love” and “Invisible” for the Nelson Mandela biopic “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.” “Ordinary Love” received an Oscar nomination for “Best Original Song.”

Throughout their 40-year career, U2 has sold over 170 million records and won 2 Golden Globes and 22 Grammy Awards (the highest number of Grammys ever for a group). U2 have always been vocal about important topics such as civil rights and the Irish question and are involved in numerous charitable and humanitarian initiatives, including those organized by Bono’s charity foundation “Red.”
