About
The Chemical Brothers, one of the most important bands in the history of electronic music, are an English electronic music duo consisting of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons. Their musical style is a mix of genres such as dance, rock and hip hop, and is characterized by the use of sampling, synthesizers and drum machines.
Rowlands and Simons first met in the 1980s at the University of Manchester School of Art History. Together they began exploring Manchester’s underground music scene, particularly the nascent rave movement.
The band debuted in 1993 with the first single, Song to the Siren, under the name The Dust Brothers. However, due to a legal dispute with an eponymous American group, they changed their name to Chemical Brothers.
Their first album, Exit Planet Dust, was released in 1995 and had a great success, reaching the second position in the UK album charts. The following year the Chemical Brothers collaborated with Noel Gallagher of Oasis for the single Setting Sun, which reached the first position in the UK singles chart.
Since then, the Chemical Brothers have released several successful albums, including Dig Your Own Hole in 1997, Surrender in 1999, Push the Button in 2005, and Born in the Echoes in 2015.
In addition to their musical career, the Chemical Brothers also worked on soundtracks for films such as Hanna in 2011 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 in 2014.
The Chemical Brothers' latest work is the new single No Reason released in 2023.
