The Sex Pistols were a British punk rock band, one of the most influential in history and a major icon of the first punk wave. The group originally consisted of singer Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock, later replaced by Sid Vicious, and was formed in 1975 in London. Although their career lasted only three years, including four record singles and one studio album, the Sex Pistols were described by the BBC as "the only British punk rock band".The group is often referred to as the founder of the British punk movement and the creator of the first generation gap with rock 'n' roll, in visceral antithesis to such laboriously produced music genres of the same time as progressive rock and pop productions of the mid-1970s.
