About
Roberto Vecchioni is a multifaceted artist born June 25, 1943, in Milan to Neapolitan parents. After graduating in ancient literature from the Catholic University of Milan, he worked as an assistant professor of "History of Religions" for two years. Thereafter, he taught Greek, Latin, Italian and history in classical high schools for 30 years.
In the world of music, he began writing songs in the 1960s for other artists, and then performed as a performer in 1971 with the album "Parabola," which includes the famous "Lights at San Siro." Over the following years, he participated in major musical events such as the Sanremo Festival and released numerous albums, including the popular "Samarcanda" in 1977. His musical career was characterized by a wide variety of genres, from pop song to reinterpretation of the Neapolitan classical tradition to jazz.
Parallel to music, he developed a literary career, publishing novels and essays. He has won numerous awards, including the Tenco Prize, Festivalbar, the Sanremo Festival and the Mia Martini Critics' Prize.
In addition to his artistic activity, Vecchioni has also been a university lecturer and a member of the Jury of Literati for the Campiello Prize. He has translated ancient plays and participated in film productions. He continues to be active in both music and academia, maintaining a prominent role in the Italian cultural scene.
