About
Porcupine Tree are one of the most famous bands of experimental rock. The band was founded in England in 1987 by Steven Wilson (voice) together with Richard Barbieri (keyboards), Colin Edwin (bass) and Gavin Harrison (drums).
For the first years of their career, the sound of Porcupine Tree was inspired by the 70’s and by Pink Floyd which can be listened with the EP The Love, Death & Mussolini, a cult for the collectors, and with The Nostalgia Factory. During the same period the band became famous in Italy, especially in Rome, thanks to the promotional activities of Radio Rock.
With the debut album On The Sunday of Live of 1991 Porcupine Tree became one of the reference band for the psychedelic scene in the UK, thanks to the following works The Sky Moves Sideways of 1995, which was sold in the USA, and Signify of 1997.
With Stupid Dream of 1999 and Lightbulg Sun of 2000 Porcupine Tree began a transitional period from psychedelic music to alternative rock with progressive influences until the metal turn in 2002 with the album In Absentia.
Among the most famous songs of Porcupine Tree we can find Nine Cats taken off On The Sunday of Life of 1991, Even Less included in Stupid Dream of 1999, Shesmovedon from Lightbulb Sun of 2000, Blackest Eyes and Trains from In Absentia of 2007 and Lazarus taken off Deadwing of 2005.
