About

All about Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel is an English musician, singer, songwriter and record producer.

A reference figure in contemporary music culture, the former leader of Genesis, in which he was as a singer, flutist and percussionist, is known for being a multifaceted and innovative artist. Throughout his successful career, Peter Gabriel experimented with numerous musical languages, researching modern recording techniques and new methods of online music distribution. From the second half of the eighties he was involved in promoting world music. The artist is also known for his humanitarian efforts.

Peter Gabriel achieved great success in Genesis, which are among the leading exponents of British progressive rock. The group affirms itself, in addition to the musical production, also for the visual performance of its frontman: Peter, during the concerts, plays different characters, introduces the songs with monologues and curated costumes and sets of live shows that go far beyond the music.

After leaving the group, Peter Gabriel began his solo career, in which he experimented with various musical genres.

Peter Gabriel released his first solo album, Car, in 1977. He then released the albums Scratch, Melt and Security, but it was with So, in 1986, that he achieved commercial success. The album features such successful singles as Sledgehammer, Don’t Give Up in duet with Kate Bush, Big Time and In Your Eyes.

Sledgehammer is accompanied by a visually innovative video created in collaboration with director Stephen R. Johnson, Aardman Animations and brothers Stephen and Timothy Quay. The video is the record holder for the most awards, 9, at the MTV Video Music Awards of 1987, including those for best video of the year and best director.

After So, Peter Gabriel released the albums Us, Up, Scratch My Back and New Blood.

During his career the artist won 6 Grammy Awards.

More than twenty years after the last album, Peter Gabriel announced the release of his new one, i/o.
