About

All about Hermanos Gutiérrez

Hermanos Gutiérrez is a Latin instrumental band formed in 2015 in Zurich by Ecuadorian-Swiss brothers Alejandro Gutiérrez (guitar and lap steel) and Estevan Gutiérrez (guitar and percussion).

They released their first album “8 Años” in 2017. This, like the next two albums “El Camino de mi Alma” and “Hoy Como Ayer,” is very much related to the world of Latin music.

The fourth album “Hijos del Sol ”, which incorporates more Western sounds, was inspired by the band's trip to Mexico in the southwestern United States in 2020.

In 2022 they released their first non-indie project “El Bueno y el Malo.” The album, in collaboration with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, was critically acclaimed.

Their most recent work is the album “Sonido Cosmico” released in 2024.

The Hermanos Gutiérrez have only been playing together for a few years, but music has always been a point of contact for them.

“When Alejandro and I play together, it's like we're driving a car,” says Estevan Gutiérrez, one of the two halves of the Hermanos Gutiérrez guitar duo. "It's like we're going on a road trip. Sometimes we are going through the desert. Sometimes we are traveling along the coast. But we are always in nature and we see the most beautiful landscapes, the sunrises, the sunsets." The music these two brothers make evokes expansive plains and rugged wilderness, saguars and surfing, spaghetti westerns and soundtracks by Morricone, Lynch and Jarmusch.

With their guitars they travel through landscapes haunted by vaqueros, cancioneros, vagabonds, runaways, lovers, family members, and whatever ghosts their listeners bring into the music. “Each album is a journey in itself,” says Alejandro Gutiérrez. “We just have to follow the music, trust ourselves and see where it takes us.”
