About
All about Gracie Abrams
Gracie Abrams made her debut in 2019 with ‘Mean It’, and has since enjoyed a flurry of enviable endorsements; from counting the likes of Lorde, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo as admirers, to supporting Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour.
Abrams’ interest in music began aged eight, having been exposed to Joni Mitchell’s songwriting by her mother while growing up in Los Angeles. Now in her early twenties, the ‘I miss you, I’m sorry’ singer has a Joni-inspired tattoo and has amassed swathes of fans with whom her own brand of anguished lyricism resonates.
Finding her feet during a time of Covid restrictions and shows performed to fans via Zoom, Gracie Abrams released her debut project minor in the summer of 2020. Produced by Blake Slatkin, Joel Little and Benny Blanco, the seven-song project (featuring '21' and 'Long Sleeves') was received to great critical acclaim, with NME describing it as “painfully honest tales of heartbreak draped in delicate melodies that carry much more intrigue than the usual run-of-the-mill singer-songwriter.”
In 2021, Abrams returned with This Is What It Feels Like, a 12-track effort cataloguing complex emotions of self-betrayal and insecurity. She embarked on a sold-out North American tour in support of the EP in early 2022, whilst also taking a support slot for Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour Tour alongside Chappell Roan, Holly Humberstone and Baby Queen.
Later that year, she released ‘Difficult’, the lead single to her debut album Good Riddance in 2023. Produced by Aaron Dessner of The National, Good Riddance cemented Gracie Abrams as an accomplished singer-songwriter of the newly-coined ‘whisperpop’ generation, with emotional complexity beyond her years. Rolling Stone named it “one of 2023’s best debuts” and hailed Abrams as “one of pop’s buzziest artists”.
Good Riddance marked her third headlining concert tour, with Abrams soon nominated for Best New Artist in the 66th Grammy Awards. New opportunities ensued, from the inclusion of her song ‘Cedar’ on the soundtrack of the Apple TV+ series The Buccaneers, to her feature on the Billboard-charting remix of ‘Everywhere, Everything’ by Noah Kahan. 2023 also saw Abrams named in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list.
Amid this growing success, Gracie Abrams landed the coveted job of opening for the US leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. A self-professed Swiftie, the pair first met after Abrams was called (seemingly out of the blue) from an unknown number to join Swift’s birthday party back in December 2021. Fast-forward to now, Abrams counts the ‘Anti-Hero’ singer as a close friend and collaborator.
Gracie Abrams’ second album, The Secret of Us (produced again by Aaron Dessner) was released in June 2024. Featuring the tracks ‘Risk’, ‘Close To You’ and a rare Taylor Swift collab ‘us.’, Rolling Stone noted that The Secret of Us sees Abrams “take her sad-girl pop to the next level.” In July 2024, Abrams announced UK and Ireland dates as part of The Secret of Us European tour.
