Romance is the most ambitious album by Fontaines D.C and its 11 tracks gather ideas from the band members - Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O'Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass) and Tom Coll (drums) - since they released Skinty Fia in 2022.

The evolution of the sound of the band, which showed teeth in the first records with an antagonistic punk sensitivity, is a rise towards more grunge break, dystopian electronics, hip-hop percussion and dreamy textures to Slowdive that could surprise fans. The shoegaze touches first popped up on Skinty Fia spread out on Romance like a purple bruise. But any "retro aesthetics" as described by Chatten is left behind. Reflecting on the upcoming release, Chatten says: "On this record we say things that we have wanted to say for a long time. I never feel like it’s over, but it feels good to be lighter".
