About
The band, made of the guitarist John Petrucci, the drummer Mike Portnoy and the bassist John Myung, formed in 1985 at Berklee College of Music of Boston, in Massachusetts. Dream Theater was originally called Majesty, but this band name had already been used. The name Dream Theater was suggested by Mike Portnoy's father, taking inspiration from an old movie theater of Monterey, in California.
Dream Theater made their debut in 1989 with the album When Dream and Day Unite. To date, the band, currently consisting of John Petrucci, John Myung, James LaBrie, Jordan Rudess and Mike Mangini, has recorded 15 albums, including two concept albums, Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory, in 1999, and The Astonishing, in 2016. 2019 was an important year for allDream Theater fans: it was the 20th anniversary of Dream Theater's fifth album, Metropolis Pt.2: Scenes from a Memory, from 1999.
Dream Theater's latest album is A View From The Top of The World, released on 22 October 2021 and preceded by the song The Alien.
Dream Theater have sold over 12 million records and received two Grammy Awards nominations. Together with Queensrÿche and Fates Warning, Dream Theater are considered the pioneers of the 80s progressive metal. Their unique style makes them one of the most influential and successful bands ever.
