About
A special one-off Italian date for Beth Gibbons, Friday 11 July 2025 at the Giardini di Triennale Milano produced by Virus Concerti and NAO UAO will see the artist bring her acclaimed debut solo album Lives Outgrown live.
More than 16 years after the last tour with Portishead that also touched our country, the legendary voice of the band that with two records set the definitive essence of trip-hop is back in concert in Italy. To make the unmissable show of the iconic voice of Portishead even more immersive, the evocative setting of the Triennale Milano Gardens, a green oasis in the heart of the city.
Lives Outgrown consists of 10 beautiful tracks recorded over 10 years, representing her most personal work, the result of a period of reflection, change and ‘many goodbyes’, in Beth's words: to family, friends, even to her former ‘self’. Songs that come midway through life, when looking forward does not bring the same emotions as it once did and looking back suddenly gives a clearer and sharper vision.
The release of the debut solo album is dated 17 May 2024 on Domino. Produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, The Last Dinner Party) and Beth Gibbons with additional production by Lee Harris (Talk Talk), Lives Outgrown touches on themes such as motherhood, anxiety, menopause (which Beth variously describes as ‘a huge check’ and ‘a huge decline’ that ‘cuts you off at the knees’) and, inevitably, mortality.
These are therefore ‘songs that address the anxieties associated with the fear of growing old’. I realised what life was like without hope. And it was a sadness I had never felt. Before, I had the chance to change my future, but when you fight with your body, you can't force it to do something it doesn't want to do. [...] People started dying,’ says Beth. 'When you're young, you never know the end, you don't know how it's going to end. You think, ‘We'll get through this. It's going to get better. Some endings are hard to digest.’
Emerging from this decade of change and realignment has left Beth with what seems to be a new awareness of purpose: ‘Now that I've come out the other side, I just think you have to be brave.
